Be it the knowledge of workings of the physical world or the innovations resulting from the creative application of such knowledge, all of themoriginate as a mere thought in the mental realm of individuals. Swami Vivekananda emphasizing on the potential of our thoughts remarked that we are the product of our thoughts and we should be mindful of what we think. Young minds are storehouse of creative potential. It is those streams of thoughts that germinate in their minds which will determine not only the course of their own future but also of the whole mankind. As a teacher I consider it my privilege that I get to stimulate germane thoughts in my students’ mind, to help them steer away from debilitating thoughts and also to make them inquisitive as well as sensitive towards the needs and problems of their fellow beings.
Teaching in a business school makes my endeavor of channeling the thoughts of young minds even more pertinent. As the controllers of economic resources and drivers of innovation, business organizations and its managers at the grassroot level play a crucial role in ensuring economic and environmental sustainability. Considering the huge impact of decisions made by managers on the economy and society at large, it is very important to plant the right seeds of thought in the minds of future managers and to make them capable of taking a holistic approach to problem solving. Even though I teach finance and related subjects I encourage students to take an interdisciplinary approach and to be compassionatewhile solving problems.
Same rule applies to me when it comes to my research projects. I do not limit myself to my knowledge domain to solve intriguing problems which have social and economic ramifications. Rather I try to explore and find new and unique logical explanations or solutions to real life problems. Research problems I seek to address mostly arise from my work experience in the banking sector and I am still in the pursuit of uncovering feasible solutions to improve Indian Banking Sector.
To summarize, I would like my students to become astute, compassionate and most of all the master of their mind rather than being its slave.
