ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR PH.D (RESIDENTIAL)

  • Candidates seeking admission to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) must have obtained (candidates who are in their final semester/year of the qualifying degree can also apply):

    A post-graduate degree or equivalent (with a minimum CGPA of 6.00 on a 10-point scale or 55% marks in aggregate)

    OR

    A Professional qualification (with a minimum CGPA of 6.00 on a 10-point scale or 55% marks in aggregate) or qualified CA / ICWA / CS/CFA

    OR

    A four-year professional degree (BE/B. Tech degree or equivalent) with excellent academic record (minimum CGPA of 9.00 on 10-point scale or 80% marks in aggregate). Relaxation in CGPA to 7.00 on a 10-point scale, or in marks to 65%, for the minimum eligibility conditions may be permitted for these candidates who have a minimum of 3 years of professional and/or research experience in the area in which the admission is sought. These candidates have to take additional master level courses of 21 credits which they select from the courses offered in Year 1 of MBA Program.

  • *A candidate not qualified with either of the five entrance criteria, UGC-NET, CAT, GATE, GMAT or GRE and is applying for PhD (Residential) program will be eligible to receive a TAship with Rs 20,000 per month for a period of three years (subject to the performance review) upon selection." However, such candidates need to appear in the LMTSM - Research Aptitude test.

Note: The policy of UGC guidelines regarding reservation of seats for SC/ ST and PH candidates shall be followed.

Requirements: Course Work & Research Proposal

Every admitted candidate shall have to do course work which can span two or three years.

Every admitted candidate shall have to undergo for a total of 118 credit hours. The course work shall be of 48 credits and thesis work of 70 credits (1 credit hour = 15 Hours). The details are as follows:

The student needs to complete 48 hours course work which shall comprise,

  • 30 credit hours of core courses
  • 12 credit hours of electives and/or independent study in the area of research
  • 6 credit hours of practice teaching to MBA student (second year) spread over a period of two to four years

Every candidate will be required to submit a research proposal to Institute Research Board (IRB) within 18 months to 36 months) from the date of admission, duly recommended by the supervisor(s), after successful completion of 18 credits with a minimum CGPA of 7.0. However, an extension of six months may be granted by the competent authority. If the candidate fails to submit the proposal during this period including the extension period, her/his admission may be cancelled. In case the proposal is rejected by the Institute Research Board (IRB), he/she may resubmit it within next six months starting the date of meeting of IRB, failing which her/his admission will be cancelled

If the candidate successfully completes 48 credits of PhD course work and meets minimum publishing requirements as per PhD academic regulations, then he/she can proceed for the submission process of PhD thesis.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR PH.D (RESIDENTIAL)

  Entrance Test: All candidates will have to undergo an entrance test conducted by the School as detailed below.:

  • Note

    The candidates who score at least 50% (45% in case of SC/ST candidates) marks in the entrance test as mentioned above and qualify the interview shall be considered for the final selection. The final Merit list for admission to the Ph.D. program shall be prepared based on the total marks scored by the candidates in the entrance test and interview.

 

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR PH.D. (RESIDENTIAL)

 Fellowships are available to the full-time Ph.D. students on recommendations of admission committee and approval of Director, LMTSM. The fellowship awardees shall be designated as Lecturer 1 and shall be required to devote 20-30 hours per week towards teaching and evaluation assistance.

  •  Monthly fellowship of Rs. 35,000* for 3 years which can be extended upto one more year upon the approval of Director, LMTSM. 
    a. The candidate must be in the top four positions in the final Merit list of selection for admission to the Ph.D. program.
    b. These scholars will secure at least 8.00 CGPA throughout in the Ph.D. course work.
    c. These scholars have successfully defended their research proposal within the prescribed period as per the Ph.D. program regulations.

    *Candidates without UGC-NET/valid score in CAT/GMAT/GRE/GATE will receive a monthly fellowship of Rs. 20,000.

     

Note: The decision of the University/School with respect to the offer of fellowship will be final and binding. The University/School reserves the right to modify the above criteria of fellowship.

This is a rolling admission process. The candidates are encouraged to apply throughout the year. Once we receive your application, the same will be taken into consideration for the subsequent phase of admission.
