Eligibility criteria for mba (Full Time)

  1. Graduate Degree in any discipline with 50% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA or corresponding grade secured from a recognized University/Institute.

    OR

    Post Graduate degree in any discipline with 50% marks aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA or corresponding grade from a recognized University/Institute.

    OR

    A graduate degree with a pass in all parts/sections of the Intermediate examination of CA/ ICWA/ ACS.

    OR

    Candidates appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. However, it may be noted that such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the program provisionally only if they submit a certificate from the Principal/Registrar of their University/Institution (issued on or before June 30, 2024) stating that they have completed all the requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate.
    Candidates having extraordinary managerial/leadership potential demonstrated through at least one year of experience are exempt from having 50% marks in their graduation/post-graduation.
    The minimum percentage required is 45% in the case of candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disability (PwD) categories.
  2. Candidate must have valid CAT/ NMAT/ XAT/ CMAT/ MAT/ GMAT/ GRE/ SNAP or TMAT (Thapar Management Aptitude Test) scores.
  3. The students applying for MBA-BABD program must at least have 60% marks or equivalent CGPA or corresponding grade in Mathematics in Class 12th or higher education.

Admission process for mba (Full Time)

Admission to the MBA & MBA – Business Analytics & Big Data programs at LM Thapar School of Management is highly competitive and is based on a comprehensive assessment of the intent and ability of the applicant to pursue a formal learning program in management.

Candidates will be shortlisted based on the details furnished in the application form and will be invited for further assessment and interview, as per the following:

A. Professional Readiness:
It comprises two parts:

  1. Video Statement of Purpose – A short video (not exceeding 03 minutes, preferably MP4 format), submitted before the interview, describing the following points:
    a. Your motivation to pursue an MBA
    b. What is unique about you as a person?
    c. Your dream for New India
  2. Interview – An interaction with the admissions panel, where the applicant is assessed for the overall fit based on parameters like motivation to pursue an MBA, willingness to learn, task orientation, temperament suitable for teamwork, initiative, energy, capacity for hard work, sense of social cause, and empathy.

B. Academic Readiness:
It is measured based on the applicant’s performance in CAT/XAT/ NMAT/ GRE/ GMAT/ CMAT/ MAT/ SNAP.
Applicants who have not taken any of the tests mentioned above will be required to take the Thapar Management Aptitude Test (TMAT) on the day of the interview. Applicants may choose to write the TMAT even if they have written the CAT/XAT/ NMAT/ GRE/ GMAT/ CMAT/ MAT/ SNAP. Sample paper for the Thapar Management Aptitude Test (TMAT)

Note: Scores in various tests are scaled and normalized for a fair comparison.

C. Academic History:
It comprises three parts:

  1. Class 10th Performance
  2. Class 12th Performance
  3. Graduation Performance (Penultimate Year)

COMPUTATION OF MERIT SCORE:

  1. The weights given to the components A, B and C are 45%, 40% and 15% respectively. Diversity factor is advertently considered in the component A.
  2. Final merit is prepared based on the Net Score, calculated using the following formula:  
    Net Score = (0.45*A) + (0.4*B) + (0.15*C)

    A, B, and C are the applicant’s scores in Professional Readiness, Academic Readiness, and Academic History, respectively.

  Emerging Leader Scholarships

Financial support in the form of scholarships is extended by our school. We award a number of scholarships on our MBA / MBA (BABD) program to applicants who have achieved excellence in their prior academic studies. A key consideration in our selection of Scholarship awards will therefore be the degree to which we believe the candidate will make a significant contribution to the quality of the Thapar’s MBA programme.

There are 75 Merit scholarships available under this category.
